Armed with our newly acquired Two-Together railcard, this weekend’s outing found us in the rather charming Kent town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. After stopping off for lashings of hot chocolate on the terrace of the Tunbridge Wells Hotel in the famous Pantiles, we worked up an appetite trawling the independent shops and boutiques of the area.
A chance google for ‘good pub food’ led us to this superb little Gastropub which is just off the beaten track, but only minutes from Tunbridge Wells rail station and the High Street. At the front is a traditional pub with dining rooms to the side and behind the bar. The decor is warm and appealing, wooden floors, muted shades complimented by bright flashes of colour, the dining room was subtly lit, comfortably enveloping without being cramped.
Service was attentive without being intrusive, friendly and professional and although a self styled Gastropub it was unpretentious. We went for lunch and opted for the lighter dishes – food was stylishly presented and tasted outstanding. An added bonus is the garden at the rear, although as it was a crisp autumn weekend we opted for comfort of the lovely rear dining room.
Highly recommended, outstanding food, service and atmosphere.
