We walked or rather got blown along the promenade and noticing that Le Roulis appeared to be the busiest and most welcoming of the restaurants open at the time decided to give it a try. Inside it was warm, lively and completely unpretentious; the décor is probably best described as eclectic bordering on anarchic perfectly finished with chairs of the plastic garden furniture variety covered with beige cloths.

Le Roulis at Caen Ouistreham port

There was a good selection of menus – we opted for the three course Menu Promenade keenly priced at just €15,00. Service was extremely friendly, efficient and quick – they’re obviously used to catering for the pre-embarkation crowd.

Le Roulis Table

The salmon starter tasted as good as I’d ever experienced and was followed by a generous sized portion of steak frites cooked to perfection, a little cheese to finish and all capped off by the tiniest glass of red (remembering that I still had to drive onto the ferry)!
